National Program

On a national level we take a long-term view to violence prevention through our partnership with the Canadian Women’s Foundation and with our sponsorship of The Fourth R Program.

Canadian Women’s Foundation

Funds we donate to the Canadian Women’s Foundation are used for grants that lead to long-term systemic change that assist women’s groups with economic development and violence prevention.

The Fourth R

The Fourth R is a grade-nine school program for preventing dating violence, substance abuse, and risky sexual practices. The contention of the Fourth R is that relationships skills can be taught in the same way as reading, writing, and arithmetic. The Fourth R is proving to be successful in engaging budding teenagers to make healthy choices and to relate to each other in a positive way.

The Fourth R was launched in Alberta and Saskatchewan in Fall 2005.

Planned rollout across Canada:

  1. British Columbia and Manitoba in 2006
  2. Ontario in 2006
  3. Atlantic Region in 2007
  4. Quebec in 2008

RLP Shelter Foundation National Partner

CWF_logoThe Canadian Women's Foundation (CWF) is Canada's only national public foundation dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls through economic and social change. The foundation raises funds and makes grants to charitable projects that help women and girls in Canada achieve greater self-reliance and economic independence.

CWF is dedicated to long-term systemic change, specifically assisting women's groups in the key areas of economic development and violence prevention. Since it started in 1991, CWF has awarded $5.6 million in grants to over 600 projects all over Canada. Priority is given to projects involving women and girls who are isolated by geography or poverty, or who face other challenges.

CWF raises funds from individual donors, corporations, professional firms, and other foundations. It receives no government or United Way support. CWF also provides technical assistance to women's organizations and consultation to other funders on women's issues, organizations and services.
